Brief History of TI

Treasure Island is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida, on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico. The area was first inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Tocobaga, who were known for their skills in fishing and seafaring. The Spanish were the first Europeans to explore the area, with Juan Ponce de León visiting the region in the early 16th century.

The island was named Treasure Island in the early 20th century by a developer who hoped to capitalize on the popularity of the novel "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson. The developer, who was also responsible for the development of St. Petersburg Beach, built a hotel on the island in the hopes of attracting tourists. The hotel was later destroyed in a fire, but the name Treasure Island stuck.

In the 1930s, Treasure Island began to develop as a tourist destination, with the construction of motels, restaurants, and other amenities. During World War II, the island was used as a training site for amphibious landings, and the Army Corps of Engineers constructed a causeway to connect the island to the mainland.

In the post-war era, Treasure Island continued to grow as a popular tourist destination, with the construction of condominiums, hotels, and other facilities. Today, Treasure Island is known for its beautiful beaches, clear Gulf waters, and wide range of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, and water sports.
